This survey is a crucial first step — understanding where people stand is the foundation for meaningful change in gender attitudes across our communities

In March 2024, AI-ChrisWOV implemented a Baseline Survey Project on Positive Masculinity in Bamenda, sponsored by Gender and Justice Fonds Mission-21. The project sought to understand current attitudes, beliefs, and behaviours around masculinity among men and boys in the North West Region, with a view to designing targeted gender-transformative interventions.
The survey was conducted across multiple communities and involved focus group discussions, key informant interviews, and structured questionnaires. Both men and women participated to capture a holistic picture of gender dynamics within households and communities.
The AI-ChrisWOV team trained a cohort of local enumerators who fanned out across the target communities over a two-week period. The enumerators — both men and women — were carefully briefed on ethical data collection practices, ensuring respondent confidentiality and informed consent throughout the process.
Data collected was compiled, validated, and submitted to the Mission-21 programme team for analysis. The findings will directly feed into the design of a follow-up positive masculinity training programme slated for later in 2024.
